Description
Tetrabenazine is a drug that is not (yet) FDA approved for used in this country. Prestwick Pharmaceuticals is pursing such approval. It is however used in other countries including England, Europe and Canada. It can be legally obtained from these countries by prescription written by a U.S. physician. Mechanisms of Action
Tetrabenazine is a drug that works by lowering dopamine levels. Though it is used to treat the chorea of Huntington there is suggestion that there is some neuroprotective benefit as well. Unlike other agents used in the treatment of chorea, this agent does not slow gait or speech (tardive dyskinesia). Rationale for Use in Huntington’s

Side effects include depression, dizziness and drowsiness. Though quite beneficial to many, this drug should be followed closely by a physician. References
