Red Hair and HD Humans have 23 chromosomes. On chromosome 4 there are many interesting transcripts. Transcript 15 (IT-15) is the huntingtin gene (HD). Just before IT-15 is the gene for red hair. Just after IT-15 is the gene for Huntington's disease like disease type 2 (HDLD2). Unlike HD or HDLD2, red hair can skip generations.

"I love roses, I always stop to smell them."--Lisa Upon sharing my at-risk status with friends, I find myself faced with questions and statements like, "When are you talking the test?" or "If I were you, I would have an appointment the day I turned 18." To say the least, these statements are bothersome. This test is so important; it will greatly impact my whole life. My relationships, education, and outlook on life will all be tainted regardless of the outcome." 06-Nov-1998, Lisa: At Risker, Author,HDSA Youth Award Recipient,Sacramento, California, US |
